appointment.
The Postmaster General would raise no objection to
Mr. Cooper's transfer: but before further action is takon he
would be glad to have some information regarding the
situation and to know whether the post is permanent and
pensionable, and on what terms Mr. Coopers transfer would be
offected.

GENERAL POST OFFICE, HONGKONG 31st May, 1917.
I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to inform you, in reply to your letter of the 30th December addressed to my predecessor Mr. Wolfe, that the position which you have vacated in this Post Office will be kept open for you should you, at the termination of the War, wish to return to Hong Kong and take up this position.
In conclusion I bog to wish you every possible success and a safe return to this Office.
